We support the opportunities of national minorities living in Estonia to preserve and study their native languages and culture and to also present them outside classrooms by helping national minorities to organise Sunday schools and study trips to their countries of origin. We also support the activities of national culture societies – we distribute support to national culture societies through umbrella organisations, who can use it to preserve, develop and introduce their languages and culture.
Communication plays an important role in a multicultural society. This is why we support cooperation between different national culture societies, communication between cultures and organisation of joint events. We also offer support to cooperation projects of NGOs, which involve citizens of third countries of the European Union and whose citizenship is undetermined. In addition to supporting cooperation, we also create informational materials that introduce the different nationalities living in Estonia. Books in the Nationalities in Estonia series and the video series ‘Ethnic Mosaic’ help us to get to know each other better.
We pay a lot of attention to youth work. The goal of our activities is to support equal opportunities among the young people living in Estonia in terms of studying as well as by the creation of a positive attitude towards each other through the experience of cooperation.
We hope to achieve this by supporting language teaching to young people in language camps outside schools, but this is not the only thing we offer. We also carry out joint activities about democracy, civil society and participation for young people where they can practise Estonian. It is important to support intercultural dialogue in the cooperation between young people and to prepare youth workers for working in a multicultural environment.
Our activities are mainly aimed at young people living in Estonia, but we do not leave out the young Estonians who live abroad. The foundation organises camps for Estonian children living abroad where they can improve their Estonian language skills and learn about Estonian culture. |
