More than 140 nationalities live here in Estonia. It is a special kind of wealth that those who have friends of other nationalities would be happy to tell you. Life with these people is interesting and exciting, because differences broaden your horizons and create more opportunities for us as a society.
There are people who live in Estonia but do not wish to become citizens of the country. Others, however, feel that becoming citizens of Estonia is important for them for various reasons. The foundation and the Examination and Qualification Centre have organised preparatory courses for citizenship examinations and publication of study materials to help people apply for citizenship.
The younger generation has also benefitted from the civic education offered by us. The Citizen’s Day Quiz has been organised for seven years and its materials help civil studies teachers in both Estonian and Russian-language schools to make their lessons more interesting.
One of the facets of civic education is to direct citizens, irrespective of their nationality, towards a better understanding of each other’s culture, traditions and everyday standards of behaviour. Representatives of different nationalities living in Estonia have been introduced in the media at the initiative of the foundation to achieve this.
We have provided information and educated representatives of companies and the wider public in order to promote tolerance and equal opportunities. |
